Recycled content – Many products now use 100% recycled HDPE, and they’re fully recyclable at end of life. It’s a nice bonus if sustainability matters to your organisation.
Compliance standards – Some products are manufactured to ADA accessibility compliance standards, which is worth checking if public access is part of your use case.
Installation – Simpler Than You Think
Here’s what I like about this product: you don’t need to dig anything up. It’s a “no dig” solution. The installation process is straightforward:
- Cut the grass short – as close as you can get it
- Roll the mesh out over the surface
- Secure it with steel U-pins or plastic anchor pegs
- Let the grass grow through – usually a few weeks for best results
If you’re in a hurry, you can use the surface immediately, though waiting for the grass to establish gives you better root interlocking.
The Cost Equation
Compared to paving or gravel alternatives, grass reinforcement mesh is significantly more cost-effective. No groundwork, no excavation, no specialist labour required. And because it lasts for years, you’re not constantly repairing ruts or reseeding damaged areas.
For event sites that only see heavy traffic a few times a year, it’s hard to justify the expense of permanent hardstanding. This gives you the capacity when you need it, without the eyesore when you don’t.
One Thing to Keep in Mind
Good drainage is essential. Before installing, make sure the area drains properly. If water pools naturally, even reinforced grass will struggle. If drainage isn’t adequate, the product may not perform as required.
